East Balkan Properties’s Board of Directors currently comprises three Non-executive Directors who are responsible for the overall management of the Company and for evaluating investment decisions.
The Board members and a brief CV of each is given below.
James Ede-Golightly (Executive Chairman)
James has extensive experience as a non-executive director of private and AIM quoted companies and is currently chairman of Gulfsands Plc and Cronin Group Plc. James was a founder of ORA Capital Partners Plc in 2006, having previously worked as an analyst at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and Commerzbank.
James is a CFA Charter holder, Chartered Director and holds a degree in economics degree from Cambridge University as well as a Graduate Diploma in Law.
Graham Smith (Non-executive Director)
Graham Smith is a chartered accountant and an Isle of Man resident. He is currently an Executive Director of FIM Capital Limited (formerly IOMA Fund and Investment Management Limited), the administrator to the Company. He has over 25 years financial management experience primarily in the life assurance and investment funds sectors.
Mark Butcher (Non-executive Director)
Mark Butcher is currently working as a non-executive director for a number of companies including EBP. His other Board positions are National Milk Records PLC, CloudTag Inc., AssetCo plc and Coldharbour Marine Limited. He has over 20 years experience working in the City and, up until 30 June 2012, he was an executive director of GPG (UK) Holdings plc which was the UK investment arm of Guinness Peat Group plc where he managed a significant proportion of that Group’s investments. He has wide experience in international accounting, corporate finance and banking transactions and has served on the Boards of Autologic Holdings plc, Newbury Racecourse plc and Nationwide Accident Repair Services plc. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa.
The Company no longer engages an investment manager, but instead engages local asset managers for each investment. In addition, it retains the services of a consultant, Michael Uhler, whose CV is as below.
Michael Uhler (Managing Director)
Michael Uhler has held a key advisory role with EBP since November 2007, originally serving as the chief financial officer as a member of Equest Partners Ltd team. Now as an independent consultant, Mr Uhler advises the board on financial matters and coordinates the efforts of the asset managers, property managers, sales agents, valuers and other external consultants to fulfill the fund’s regulatory requirements and business plan objectives. Mr Uhler represented the fund in the sale of City Center Sofia and has negotiated several debt restructurings.
Formerly, he worked as a director of structured finance at Hypo Real Estate International (London) and at HypoVereinsbank AG (Munich) with a focus on lending to the CEE region. Prior to moving to Europe, he worked as a mortgage broker with Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP (Atlanta). He has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience.
